Methuen - Elaine B. (Lemelin) Hayes, age 72, of Methuen passed away on June 18, 2016 at the Nevins Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a courageous battle with cancer. Elaine was born in Lowell, MA on March 29, 1944 to the late Emile and Therese (Coderre) Lemelin. Mrs. Hayes was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School of Lawrence, Class of 1961. Elaine was a very loving woman who cared deeply for her family and friends. She enjoyed shopping, cooking, her garden and home decorating. But most of all she enjoyed her family and spent her life caring for them.
Elaine was the beloved wife of Stephen Hayes of Methuen with whom she shared 53 years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Kimberly Hayes-Hackett of Methuen, and Keith Hayes of Methuen. Mrs. Hayes was the dear sister of Joyce D. Morelle of Nashua, NH, Susan I. Perkins of Methuen, and the late Richard E. Lemelin; and sister-in-law to Maureen R. Hayes of Ellicott City, Maryland. She was the loving grandmother of Stephanie T. Hackett, with whom she shared a special closeness, and was the great-grandmother of Lillian Elaine (Lilly), whom she adored. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews; among them her god-daughter Dawn L. McFadden.
