Obituary

CHICOPEE – Mary J. (Motroni) Donahue, 83, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, June 20, 2016. She passed into Eternal Life at Holyoke Medical Center surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Palmer on January 7, 1933, a beloved daughter of the late John and Julia (Rastrelli) Motroni. She was raised in Holyoke, graduated from the former Saint Jerome High School in Holyoke and lived in Holyoke for many years before moving to Chicopee in November of 2000. She was employed as a clerk typist for 30 years for the Department of Defense for the United States Army and United States Air Force and had worked at the Springfield Armory, Fort Devens in Ayer, Massachusetts, Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, New York and lastly at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee. Mary enjoyed playing bingo and was a weekly player at the Moose Family Center and the Elks Lodge, both in Chicopee. During her leisure time, she enjoyed reading, crocheting and watching Western television programs. Most of all, she was a woman who loved her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She especially enjoyed being a grandmother and attended her grandsons’ many sporting events. She was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. She leaves her beloved husband and best friend, Patrick J. Donahue. They were married on September 22, 1956 at the former Saint Mary of the Assumption Church in the Willimansett section of Chicopee and were blessed with nearly 60 years of happiness together. She also leaves her three loving daughters, Ann M. Chicoine and her husband, Denis, of Chicopee, Susan M. Wytrych and her husband, Edward, of Feeding Hills and Karen A. Martin and her wife, Rebecca Martin, of Grand Prairie, TX; her four cherished grandsons whom she adored, Joseph Lavoie and his wife, Theresa, Louis Chevalier, Ryan Wytrych and Connor Wytrych; her two cherished great-grandchildren; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Donahue and Motroni families. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her four dear brothers, Peter, Ralph, Joseph and Robert Motroni. Her funeral will be held on Saturday morning, June 25, 2016 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening, June 24, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
