Maria C. (Chaves) Braga, 92, of Hudson, died on Saturay, June 18th surrounded by her loving family at the Marlborough Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Marlboro, MA. She was the beloved wife of the late Jose Viveiros Braga who died in 1976.
Maria was born and raised in Santa Maria, the Azores of Portugal, daughter of the late Jose M. and Umbelina (Cabral) Chaves. She emigrated to Hudson from Santa Maria in 1966 and was employed by Data General in Southboro for many years. She was a member of Saint Michael’s Parish in Hudson.
Maria enjoyed gardening and knitting in her spare time. She always looked forward to visiting family and friends on her frequent trips back to Santa Maria. She truly loved spending time with her family in Hudson, especially later with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her memories will always be cherished by all who loved and knew her.
Maria is survived by her 3 children, Jose C. Braga and his wife Maria of California, Maria F. Rummerfield and her husband Larry of Hudson and Antonio C. Braga and his wife Josefina of Brazil. She also leaves her 7 loving grandchildren and 10 adoring great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Jose Chaves, Antonio Chaves and Filomena Cabral.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 24th at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Michael’s Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. Burial services will follow in Saint Michael’s Cemetery, Hudson. Family and friends may attend calling hours on Thursday, June 23nd from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
