Mary A. "Maureen" (O'Mahony) Moriarty, a 60 year resident of Charlestown and formerly of Cork City, County Cork, Ireland, entered into eternal life suddenly on Friday, June 17, 2016 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She was 79 years old.
Maureen was born in Cork City, County Cork, Ireland on November 19, 1936, a daughter of the late John O'Mahony and Ellen (Ahern) O'Mahony. She grew up in Cork City, Ireland where she was educated there. Maureen immigrated to the United States at the age of 18 and eventually settled in Charlestown. Maureen was a very dedicated wife, mother and grandmother and took great pride and satisfaction that her family always came first and foremost in her life. She enjoyed reading and was very proud of her Irish heritage and becoming an American citizen.
Maureen is the beloved wife of the late Patrick J. Moriarty. She is the devoted mother of Margaret Moriarty and her husband Tony O'Shea of Charlestown and County Kerry, Ireland, Ellen Johnson of Wilmington, John Moriarty and his wife Becky of Wilmington, Maureen P. Rae and her late husband Michael of Quincy, Colleen Fahy and her husband Josie of West Roxbury and Patrick Moriarty and his wife Jodi of Weston, Florida. She is the loving Grandmother to Michael, Sheila, Daniel, Brendan, John P., Kevin, Erin, Patrick, Megan and Shawn. She is the beloved sister of Jim O'Mahony of Cork City, Ireland and the late Eileen Murphy, Shawn O'Mahony, Dano O'Mahony and Mossie O'Mahony. She is the best friend of Ann O'Mahony and Helen Bresky. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Maureen's Funeral on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 9:45 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Benedict's Church, 21 Hathorn St. Somerville at 11 A.M. Her burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Her visiting hours will be on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 from 2 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
