SHREWSBURY-George A. James, Sr., 78, of 22 Maury Lane died Friday, July 15th in UMass Memorial Medical Center. He leaves his wife Virginia D. (Saunders) James, 3 sons; Arthur G. James of Shrewsbury, George and his wife Kathleen James of Jefferson and Matthew C. and his wife Corrine James of Webster, a daughter; Elaine wife of James Hamlin of Hancock, NH, a sister; Aphrodite “Efie” Nichols of Worcester, 8 grandchildren and a great-grand daughter.
He was born in Watertown the son of Arthur and Angelina Serekis. Mr. James was a World War 2 Navy veteran serving as a motor machinist. He was awarded the World War 2 Victory Medal, the American Theatre Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal with 2 bronze star devices. He was a graduate of Assumption College. Mr. James had been a teacher for 20 years at Shrewsbury High School, retiring in 1989. Previously he had been employed by Table Talk Pie Company. He was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral and served as a Boy Scout Leader for the Cathedral.
The funeral is Tuesday, July 19th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a service at 10:00 AM in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. A calling hour will be held from 8:30 until 9:30 AM the day of the funeral.
