Gilmanton----Christopher Robertson, 90, died Thursday, June 9, 2016, after a brief hospitalization in Concord Hospital.
Chris was born in Lakeport, NH on December 4, 1925 to Eunice (Whittemore) and William Thomas Robertson and grew up on Jefferson Street. The family moved to Early Sunrise Farm in Gilmanton in 1943. Chris was a dairy farmer until 1970, then turned to logging, raising sheep, and haying for his income. Some may even remember him from a short stint as a Gilmanton School bus driver. Well into his 80’s he was still doing chores for Charles River Lab in Pittsfield, NH.
Chris was his own man. He attended Laconia High School, but left school before he graduated. However, he was widely read and had a “Yankee” wisdom which he applied to all of his life. He especially enjoyed reading about Scotland and all things Scottish. He loved telling stories about his life on “the farm” and spent time teaching his nieces and nephews about country living during their summer visits with their grandparents. After the death of his parents he remained on the farm, keeper of family memories.
Chris was a member of Rising Sun Lodge in Nashua, NH, a 32nd degree Mason, served on the Gilmanton budget committee, and was a member of the Farm Bureau of New Hampshire.
Chris never married. He is survived by his sister Mary Whitten Marsunias, ten nieces and nephews and their extended families. He was predeceased by his brother William and two sisters, Margaret and Gertrude.
There will be no Calling hours or Funeral.
Graveside services will be Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 3:00PM at Smith Meeting House Cemetery, Gilmanton.
