Nina Connell Smith, 88, of West Berrien passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at her residence. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2016, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Stan Nix and the Rev. Ronnie Lawson officiating. Mrs. Smith will be laid to rest at Tift Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday, June 17, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Rod Smith, Sam Smith, Carter Harper, Brian Curry and Wade Alley will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald Harbin, Darrell Harper, G. W. Pearman, Ray Peele, Paul Harris, Talmadge Sutton, Doug Allen, Coy Tawzer, Leroy Little, Robert Curry, Billy Bryan, Johnnie Griffin, Wayne Ellis, Gene Goode; and members of the Red Hatters.
Born January 18, 1928, Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late Dannie Lambert Connell and Iva Hiers Connell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul “Smitty” Watson Smith; a son, Derrell Smith; two brothers, Kenneth Connell and L. D. Connell; and two sisters, Doris Reed and Norma Cranford. She was self-employed as a bookkeeper for the family business and a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Berrien County.
Mrs. Smith is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Danny Paul and Carolyn Smith of West Berrien; two sisters, Clyde Smith of Adel and Vera Gaskins of West Berrien; and two grandchildren, Rod Smith and Sam Smith.
