Gilford-----William "Bill" E. Edgar Jr. 80, of Old Lake Shore Road passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2016 with his loving family by his side at Genesis Laconia Rehabilitation Center after a period of declining health.
Bill was born March 25, 1936 in Valley Stream, New York, son to the late William Edgar Sr. and late Ruth (Verity) Oliver. He worked for many years as a postman in New York before moving to New Hampshire in 1967. Once settled he began working as a marine mechanic for many years. Bill was also employed at Stafford Oil for 25 years prior to retiring in 2005.
Bill was a member of the Elks Lodge #876 as well as past president of the Belknap Snowmobile Club and Tardif Park Association for several years. He enjoyed sled dog racing, snowmobiling, shooting, boating, motorcycles, cars, hunting and fishing. He was truly an outdoorsman and loved nature and animals. The seasons temperatures never stopped him from enjoying his time outdoors.
Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years Catherine Edgar of Gilford, his loving four daughters, Donna Curran and her husband Robert of Laconia, Debbie Brewer and her husband, Gene of Wolfeboro, Kathryn Marden and her husband, Michael of Laconia and Tricia Furbish of Gilford. ten grandchildren, Ryan, Meagan and Billy Curran, Matt and Garrett Brewer, Melinda, Stacey and Joshua Ellsworth and Natasha and Nathan Furbish; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his brother, Robert Edgar, his two sisters, Jean Kenyon and Mary Johnson, his son-in-law, Rick Furbish and a great-grandson, Hunter Toth.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, June 16, 2016 from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH, using the Carriage House entrance.
A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00pm also at the funeral home.
Burial will immediately follow in the family lot at Oakland Cemetery, Meredith.
