Obituary

CHICOPEE – Roland P. Roux, 77, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Friday, June 10, 2016. He passed into Eternal Life at Holyoke Medical Center surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on August 7, 1938 a beloved son of the late Luc and Sylvia Y. (Cloutier) Roux. He was raised on Dale Street in the Aldenville section of Chicopee where he lived for many years before moving to Fairview in 1987. Roland was employed as a machine adjuster and finish carpenter for the former Westvaco Company in Springfield. He previously worked at the former A. G. Spalding Company in Willimansett and the former American Bosch in Springfield. Roland was an avid golfer and according to his family, he was “on the golf course” 7 days a week. This past Christmas, as the weather was in the 60’s, Roland made his way to the golf course. He was a member of the former Oxford Country Club in Chicopee, Holyoke Country Club and Tekoa Country Club in Westfield. For over 20 years, Roland began working on his Department 56 Snow Village the day after Halloween and would finish it on Thanksgiving Day. The Springfield Republican wrote two feature stories about his village. He had hundreds of pieces to the village and many people would come to his home each year to view his magnificent work of art. He was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving daughter-in-law, Susan A. (O’Donnell) Roux who was Called Home on December 1, 2010. He leaves his loving wife and best friend of 38 years, Nancy T. (Peloquin) Roux. He also leaves his five loving children, Kenneth R. Roux of Chicopee, Cheryl A. King of Ellington, CT, Kevin D. Roux and his wife, Fay, of Ware, Daniel F. Nawracaj of Groton, CT and Joseph F. Nawracaj and his partner, Amy Eggswell, of Springfield; his six cherished grandchildren, Courtney Roux, Robert Gosselin, Karly Roux, Brandon Nawracaj, Aaliyah Nawracaj and Jaxton Nawracaj; his three loving brothers, Henry P. Roux and his wife, Cindy, of Chicopee, Father Philippe D. Roux, retired Pastor of Holy Family Church in South Deerfield and Dennis L. Roux of South Deerfield; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Roux and Peloquin families. His funeral will be held on Wednesday morning, June 15, 2016 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family has requested that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke (Activity Fund), 110 Cherry Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
