Mary Jo Rock
February 2, 1934- June 9, 2016
Mary Jo Rock passed away Thursday June 9, 2016, at home surrounded by her four children, many of her grandchildren and her two great grandchildren.
Mary Jo was born February 2, 1934, in Anderson, the eldest daughter of Ralph and Josephine Ferguson who proceeded her in death.
She lived a rich and blessed life with her husband and best friend, Robert L Rock, who passed away January 9, 2013. She always had a positive and loving outlook and touched many people. She had a productive and pioneering career as a business woman, and she had a lifelong commitment to public service and the Democratic party.
Mary Jo is survived by her sister Kitty Tangeman of Dayton, Ohio; her four children: Katherine Rock Ray (Carmel, IN), Karen Rock-Monnick (London, England), Karel Rock Riedel (Chandler, AZ) and Robert Rock (Evansville, IN). In addition she leaves her sons-in-law Joseph Riedel and Paul Ray and daughter-in-law Mary Ahlering Rock; grandchildren Elizabeth Riedel Badillo (husband Noe); Caroline Riedel; Sarah Rock; William Rock; Josephine Monnick; John Rock; Catherine Riedel; Hugh Rock; Lindsay Ray and her great grandchildren, Griffin and Elliot Badillo. She was proceeded in death by her brother-in-law, Richard Tangeman, and son-in-law, Stewart Monnick.
Mary Jo graduated as Valedictorian from St. Mary’s High School and from Indiana University. Mary Jo began her working life as a teacher followed by 43 years as a real estate broker. Mary Jo was a board member for the Anderson Board of Realtors, the Urban League, Anderson Food Bank (Second Harvest Food Bank) and American Cancer Society. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority and various other philanthropic organizations.
Visitation will be held Friday June 17th, 9:30-11:30 at Rozelle – Johnson Funeral Service followed by a funeral Mass at St. Mary’s church at noon. A private burial will follow Mass.
