North Augusta - Angus H. Wilson, III passed away June 8, 2016.
A native to Augusta, he was born on October 23, 1934. Angus was the son of the late Angus H. Wilson, Jr. and Ann Moody Wilson, both of Augusta. He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Gretchen Corley Wilson, his two sons; Clay Heyward Wilson; wife Lynn Hayes Wilson and Patrick Theodore Wilson, his grandchildren; Amelia Grace Wilson, Margret Ann Wilson, and Taylor Heyward Wilson, and several step grandchildren; Rachel Duren (Shon) of Greenville, SC, Morgan Hayes of Evans, GA and Avery Duren.
Angus, or “Gus” as many knew him, graduated from Richmond Academy in 1952 where he was a cheerleader, and went on to attend The Citadel where he graduated in 1956. After graduation, Angus joined the Air Force and was stationed in Hondo, TX. For much of his life he worked at Maner Builders Supply on Washington Road where he had the opportunity to travel the world and upon his retirement he moved to North Myrtle Beach. There he enjoyed a life of fishing as well as beach activities with his grandchildren. He enjoyed many hobbies in life, like collecting antiques and costume jewelry and could frequently be seen at flea markets and yard sales wherever he could find them. Everyone who knew Gus will remember his wonderful and lively sense of humor. He was well liked by all.
The family will be receiving visitors on Friday evening, June 10, 2016 from 5-7 at Platts Funeral Home 337 N. Belair Road in Evans, GA. A graveside service is planned for 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Westover Memorial Park with Rev. Hal Hodgens officiating.
