Charles Edward Dent, Jr., 69, of Derry, NH, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2016, peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Marilyn Kron Dent of Derry; his daughter, Virginia Dent Kahn of Southborough, MA, son-in-law Alexander Kahn, and two grandchildren, Ben and Violet Kahn, extended family, and many dear friends.
Charlie was born in Pulaski, VA on December 20,1946, the son of the late Charles “Eb” and Elizabeth (Bushong) Dent. He graduated from The College of William and Mary in 1969, where he met his wife Marilyn Kron.
Charlie enjoyed a long career as a broadcasting executive at various radio stations throughout southern New England. He began his career in Boston in sales at WCOP and WCGY. In the 1980s, he was the General Manager of WKBR in Manchester, NH and Manager/Part-owner of WMDK in Peterborough, NH. Later he worked at the River, WXRV, and founded his own marketing agency, Precedent Marketing.
An avid musician, Charlie played piano from the time he was a young child. He taught himself to play many instruments, including guitar, banjo, and hammered dulcimer, and spent much of his free time playing in jazz, rock, R&B, and folk groups. In Derry, Charlie volunteered extensively for theater productions at Pinkerton Academy and was a board member of The Robert Frost Farm.
