Safety Harbor, Florida – Joan A. (Moniz) Araujo, 72, of Palm Harbor, Florida died at Mease Countryside Hospital on July 12, 2005 after a long illness. She was the wife of Joseph C. Araujo, they were married for 35 years.
Mrs. Araujo was born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Frank and Ethel (Paris) Moniz, and lived most of her life in New Bedford, residing the past 6 years in Florida. She was a member of the First Assembly of God, Tarpon Springs, Florida and attended the Calvary Pentecostal Church in Freetown when living in this area. She was employed by Woolworth’s, S. Dartmouth and Cortez Grocery Store until her retirement. She was a member of the Gold Tones in Palm Harbor, Florida, had worked as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in Rochester and enjoyed doing arts & crafts.
In addition to her widower, she is survived by 2 sons: Lionel A. Desroches of Jacksonville, FL and Richard Desroches of New Bedford; a sister: Charlotte A. Paul of Palm Harbor, FL; 3 grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews.

Funeral service on Friday, July 15, 2005 at 8:30 P.M. at the KIRBY FUNERAL HOME, 61 Tarkiln Hill Road, New Bedford.
An interment service will be held Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at the Acushnet Cemetery, Acushnet.
