Obituary

LEDYARD - Frank Edmond Bliven, 83, of Ledyard, passed away Monday, June 6th at his home with his family by his side.

He was born May 25, 1933 in Richmond, RI, the son of Percy and Lucy (Crandall) Bliven.

He is survived by his sisters; Minnie Lussier (and her husband Leon), Jessie Collins, and Dorothy Crawford; his children, Gary Bliven, Arthur Bliven, Austin Knight, Joan Disco and Michael Bliven; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Georgia Mathilda (Sturgis) Bliven and his son James Bliven; as well as his siblings Grace Chester, Virginia Host, Shirley Scott, Merrill Bliven and Leslie Bliven.

Throughout his life, Frank was very involved in the community, volunteering as a baseball coach with his boys' teams in the Ledyard Boys League, serving as an Assistant Scout Leader of Boy Scout Troop 16, and being heavily engaged in both the Ledyard VO-AG Program and the FFA. Throughout all of these he was a surrogate father and grandfather to many of his children and grandchildren's friends. He also enjoyed cooking for family and friends on holidays and manning the grill at frequent family picnics.

Frank was a hard worker, with 33 years at Electric Boat, retiring as a sheet metal worker, and then for 15 additional years in Town of Ledyard Public Works Department.

Frank was also a soldier in the U.S. Army, where his 3 year service included a tour in Korea, and he was a long time member of the Mystic VFW.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 10:00am at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic, followed by internment at Elm Grove Cemetery in Mystic and a reception at the Mystic VFW. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Center of Hospice Care, 227 Dunham St., Norwich, CT 06360.
