Martinez, GA---Mr. Ernest R. Winkler, Jr., 68, entered into rest on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at University Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 12:15 pm on Thursday, June 9, 2016, at the Baptist Union Cemetery, in Cambridge, Minnesota with Military Honors. No local services are scheduled.
Mr. Winkler was a native of Jasper, Alabama, but had been a resident of Martinez and the Augusta area for many years. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and served in the Viet Nam War. Following his discharge from the military, he worked for the U. S. Government (Civil Service), as a Civil Instructor in Communications at Ft. Gordon, a position from which he retired.
Mr. Winkler was preceded in death by his wife, Gwendolyn P. Winkler and his mother, Clara I. Winkler.
He is survived by two daughters, Tina Winkler and Tamara Kennedy (Michael), all of Martinez, GA, his father, Ernest R. Winkler, Sr., of Graysville, AL, sister, Ione Franz of Nevada and two granddaughters, Alyssa Kennedy and Kimmie Kennedy, both of Martinez, GA.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made, to the Augusta Warrior Project, Inc., 1190 Interstate Parkway, Augusta, GA 30909.
