FITZGERALD, John Edward 92, of Sherborn and Old Lyme, CT died Thursday, June 2, 2016. Born in Springfield on May 14, 1924, the son of the late John A. and Frances H. Fitzgerald, he graduated from the former Classical High School and College of the Holy Cross in Worcester.
He was Director and Treasurer of the John A. Fitzgerald Electrical Corporation and a Founder of Westbank Corporation where he served on the Board of Directors from 1960 until 1997. He was active in Holy Cross Parish in Springfield, the Passionist Retreat League, Knights of Columbus, and the Serra Club of Springfield.
During World War II, he served with the 14th Combat Cargo Squadron, 4th Combat Cargo Group in the China-Burma-India Theatre, and was the proud recipient of many distinguished medals.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Frances A. Fitzgerald, and his ten children, Ann Fitzgerald-Dunn (Edward) of Kent, CT, Dr. John E. Fitzgerald of Old Lyme, CT, Kathleen J. “Kit” Fitzgerald (Peter) of New York City, Edward M. Fitzgerald (Susan) of Dover, Andrew J. Fitzgerald (Nancy) of Medfield, Frances F. Brian (Douglas) of Sherborn, Daniel W. Fitzgerald (Maureen) of Needham, Martha F. Huebner (Geoff) of Hopkinton, William J. Fitzgerald (Maura) of Medfield, Paul G. Fitzgerald (Kelli) of Needham, 21 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and his sister Frances F. Ryan of Old Black Point, CT. He is pre-deceased by his brothers William F. and James M. Fitzgerald.
Visiting hours at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St., (Rt.16), WELLESLEY, on Monday, June 6 from 4-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul Catholic Church in Wellesley on Tuesday, June 7 at 11am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment will be private.
