COCHITUATE VILLAGE: Maurice G. Rockett, Jr., 95, died peacefully and comfortably on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 following a brief period of declining health.
He was born in Boston on May 22, 1921 the son of the late Maurice G. Rockett, Sr. and Catherine (McEckern) Rockett.
He was the beloved husband of the late Grace E. (McFadden) Rockett who died on August 9, 2011.
Maurice is survived by his devoted sons: Frank Rockett and his companion Laura Bayko of Hudson, NH; Ken Rockett and his wife Sue Rockett of Holliston; and Neal Rockett of Berkeley, CA. Cherished grandfather of Sean Rockett of Mooresville, NC; Elizabeth Rockett of Manchester, NH; Shauna Rockett and Cameron Rockett of Holliston. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Bill Rockett formerly of Danvers.
Maurice spent his earlier years in Sharon and has resided in Wayland for over 52 years. He graduated from Sharon High School and received his BA in Business from the University of Texas. He served his country with honor and pride during World War II as a First Lieutenant with the United States Army, 335th Bomb Squadron. He was in the European Theater and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with Four Bronze Clusters, European – African – Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Medal and the Purple Heart.
Maurice had a long and distinguished career as a business analyst with the Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in Boston and retired in 1977. He and his wife Grace hosted many international exchange students and administrators at their Wayland home. He was an active and devout communicant of Saint Zepherin Parish in Cochituate. He and his wife enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, especially to the Southwest and to Switzerland. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather to his family and will be greatly missed.
Visitations will be on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte 30), Cochituate Village, Wayland.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 10:00 am at Good Shepherd Parish at St. Zepherin Church, 99 Main Street (Rte 27), Cochituate Village, Wayland.
Interment will be at a later date at the National Cemetery in Bourne.
