New Bedford – Lucilia C. Sousa, age 71 of Dartmouth, passed away on June 1, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the loving wife of 47 years to Antonio M. Sousa and the daughter of the late Antonio and Lourdes (Carreiro) Tavares. Born in Agua do Pau, Mrs. Sousa came to this country in 1970 and worked as a stitcher for Cliftex until her retirement.
She is survived by her husband, Antonio M. Sousa of Dartmouth; 2 children: Carmen Mello and her husband, Paul, of Acushnet and Tony Sousa and his wife, Lisa, of Dartmouth; 4 grandchildren: Matthew, Michael, Anthony and Isabelle; siblings: Antonio Tavares of Ontario and Julieta Pereira of Dartmouth and the late Jose Tavares; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be Monday beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon in the funeral home from 3 – 5 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
