Albert C. Amaral, 80, of New Bedford died Tuesday May 31, 2016 at Hathaway Manor Extended Care Facility. He was the husband of Rita (Connick) Amaral; they would have been married for 50 years on July 31, 2016.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Manuel C. and Mary S. (Rezendes) Amaral, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Mr. Amaral was formerly employed as the assistant administrator of the Stephen Hetland Memorial Skating Rink in New Bedford until his retirement. He had also previously worked at Almac's Supermarket in New Bedford.
He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed going to the Raynham Dog Track.
Survivors include his wife; two children, Lisa Amaral and her companion Kevin Barboza of Middleboro, and Michael Amaral of New Bedford; a sister; Leonora Devaney of Vineyard Haven; two grandchildren, Shashawna Santiago Amaral of New Bedford, and Matthew Witmer of Colorado; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his daughter Gail Witmer and his sister Patricia Medeiros.
His Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 11 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.
