Mr. Lawrence J. Gilgun, a lifelong resident of Woburn passed away peacefully, May 30, 2016, at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington. He was 84 years of age. Larry was the beloved husband of Patricia M. (Sheridan) and together they shared 54 years of marriage. Born in Woburn he was the only child of the late Michael J. and Agnes M. (McEachern) Gilgun.
Larry was a 1950 graduate of Woburn High School. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and honorably served his country during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. He attended Merrimack College where he studied engineering and soon secured a job with the Massachusetts Highway Department as a Civil Engineer. He worked for the Commonwealth for nearly forty years prior to his retirement in 1996. Once retired Larry and his wife traveled extensively and especially enjoyed traveling all over Europe. When Larry was younger he was a talented candlepin bowler and traveled quite a bit to compete in different events around the state. He was an avid Boston sports fan and in more recent years enjoyed the occasional trip to Foxwoods Casino.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife Patricia and their children; Michael Gilgun and his wife Betsy of Grafton, Daniel Gilgun and his wife Melissa of Billerica, Diane Robillard and her husband David of Chelmsford. He was the loving grandfather of Nicholas and Cara Gilgun of Grafton, and Jack Gilgun of Billerica. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, Monday, June 6th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Barbara Church, 138 Cambridge Road, Woburn, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 2 thru 6 p.m. Services will conclude with military honors and burial at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Larry's memory to St. Barbara Church, 138 Cambridge Rd., Woburn, MA 01801 or to the charity of one's choice.
