Dorothy Jacome Rogers, in her 90th year, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2016 in her home surrounded by her family and close friends. She was the wife of the late Henrique "Rick" Rogers, whom she was married to for 66 years, and mother of the late Heidi Rogers Rebello.
A lifelong resident of Dartmouth, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Mary Jacome. She was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in South Dartmouth, where she was a member of the Ladies Guild.
Dorothy graduated from Dartmouth High School and continued her education at Rhode Island School of Design. She and her husband, Rick, owned and operated H. Rogers Co., Inc., a paint and wall covering company on County Street in New Bedford where she was an accomplished interior decorator.
She was a strong woman who will always be remembered for her warm smile and fashionable style, not to mention her sunglasses and pearls. She will be well-remembered as she decorated the lives of many people.
Dorothy had been a volunteer for St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the Catholic Woman's Club, the New Bedford Yacht Club, and various investment clubs. She had been a corporator of the former New Bedford Institution for Savings.
She is survived by two grandchildren, Adam Rebello and his wife Christina of Dartmouth, and Abigail Rebello Edwards and her wife Kristen of South Boston; two great-granddaughters, Grace and Charlotte Rebello; her beloved friend and adopted daughter, Koreen Santos of Dartmouth; her sisters-in-law, Lucy Perry and Beatrice Gonsalves; and many nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral will be held on Saturday at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, South Dartmouth at 10 AM. Burial will be in South Dartmouth Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 5-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Heidi Rogers Rebello Memorial Scholarship Fund.
