Augusta, GA – Birdie Jeanette Johnson Youngblood, 76, of Clark Street in Augusta went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 29, 2016 at Augusta University Medical Center (GRU).
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 3, 2016 at First Free Will Baptist Church, 2020 Gardner Street, Augusta, GA, 30904 with Rev. Benny Smith and Rev. James Murray officiating. Mrs. Youngblood will lie in state from 1:00 PM until service time. Interment to follow at West View Cemetery.
Birdie was a life-long resident of Augusta. She had retired from Thomson Company and Augusta Sportswear and was an active member of First Free Will Baptist Church. Birdie was the daughter of the late Claude and Nettie Amons Johnson, Sr.
Birdie loved any opportunity to attend her church, church activities, and gospel singings. She was the sunshine and guiding light of the family and we will miss her all The Days Of Our Lives. Birdie loved all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by her favorite saying “Good, Good, Good Sugar”. Birdie was one strong Christian woman and mother.
Birdie is survived by her daughter, Sheila A. Youngblood of Virginia Beach, VA; her two sons, Gary A. Youngblood, Sr. (Tammy) of Harlem, GA, and Paul Allan Youngblood (Linda) of Fayetteville, GA; seven grandchildren, Gary A. Youngblood, Jr. (Tonya), Patti Youngblood, Jennifer Gutierrez (Jesse), Justin Youngblood (Samantha), Rene’ Youngblood, Ariel Youngblood, and Gabbi Youngblood; 11 great-grandchildren; her brother, Billy Gene Johnson (Nita); and many nieces and nephews including her niece Laura Tarver who was more like a sister. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ed, Willie, Pete, Tessier, Preston, and Fred; and by her sisters, Sis, Emma, Bootsie, and Betty.
Pallbearers will be Harry “Junior” Poston, Ricky Poston, James “Big Boy” Sirmans, Larry Poston, Jr., Chris Poston, and Barry Davis.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening, June 2, 2016 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.
