Obituary

MEDWAY: Mary K. Knapp, DDS, age 64, a longtime Mendon dentist, died peacefully with her family at her side on Monday, May 30, 2016, at Massachusetts General Hospital. She was the devoted wife of Daniel F. Mahnks for 37 years.

Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, she was the eldest child of Katherine M. (Brunner) and John A. “Jack” Knapp, Jr. of Sherborn. Her family had lived in Pennsylvania and Connecticut prior to settling in Sherborn during Mary’s junior year. After graduating from Dover Sherborn High School, she earned her baccalaureate degree from Stonehill College and went on to receive her Doctor of Dental Surgery from Georgetown University.

Mary and Dan were married in 1978 and have called Medway home since 1984. Mary was employed for several years with a dental group in Holliston and Medway, before establishing her own office in Mendon, where she served patients in the Mendon area for the past thirty years.

A family oriented lady and enthusiastic cook, Mary delighted in family celebrations, and following her children’s growth in dance and skating. She enjoyed theater, from musicals to classics, going to festivals and fairs, traveling to Maine to ski, or just a quiet day at home.

In addition to her husband, Dan, and her parents, she is survived by three children, Diane E. Mahnks of Medway, Daniel C. Mahnks and his wife Margaret of Stoneham, and Stephanie A. Mahnks of Boston; four grandchildren, Braiden, Isabella, Alyssa, and Daniel; her brothers and sisters, Deborah J. Botelho and her husband Robert of Sherborn, Margaret R. Santo and her husband David of Lexington, John G. Knapp and his wife Amber of Henderson, NV, Mark A. Knapp and his wife Kathy of Sherborn, Patricia Michaud and her husband Al of Sherborn, Michael Knapp and his wife Leslie of Natick, and Stephen A. Knapp and his wife Kristen of Natick; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Linus Church, 119 Hartford Street, Natick, on Friday, June 3rd at 10:00AM. Burial will follow in Saint Patrick Cemetery. Visiting hours will be in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, on Thursday 4 – 8PM. Donations may be made in Mary’s memory to the National Brain Tumor Society, www.braintumor.org.
