Obituary

Edith (Medeiros) Rego, 90, of New Bedford died Friday May 27, 2016 at the Oaks Nursing Home after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Jayme M. Rego.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late William B. and Mary J. (Rodriques) Medeiros, she was raised in Dartmouth, educated in Dartmouth Schools, and then lived most of her life in New Bedford.

She was a communicant of the former St. John the Baptist Church.

Mrs. Rego was formerly employed by St. Luke's Hospital in the laundry department for 21 years until her retirement. She had previously worked at Cornell-Dubilier Electronics Corporation.

Edith was a guitar player who played in the band, "The Echo Tones" with her late husband. She also sang on the Portuguese Hour radio program years ago.

Her family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at the Oaks for the excellent care that Edith received during her illness.

She is survived by her two sons, Jayme Rego and his wife Sandra J., and Robert Rego, all of New Bedford; her brother-in-law, Edward Rego of New Bedford; a niece and two nephews; and several cousins.

She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Traci Leigh Rego Arsenault.

Her Memorial Service will be held on Thursday at 7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Visiting hours will be Thursday 4-7 PM prior to the service.
