Obituary


Joan Laverne (Crossman)Cashman, age 80, of Brockton, passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, May 24, 2016, while vacationing in San Diego, California. She was the wife of the late Donald Richard Cashman for 50 years. A life-long resident of Brockton, Joan was born July 25, 1935, the daughter of the late Roy and Laverne (McCormack) Crossman. She led a very active and busy life. She retired in 2007 from Brockton High School, where she had been employed in the Instructional Resources Department for almost thirty years. She was active in the Catholic Mother’s Club and the Brockton Senior Center, and worked on the Brockton High School Class of 1953 Reunion committees for over 60 years. She also enjoyed participating in a weekly bowling league, a knitting group, and numerous other activities.

Joan is survived by her children, Kathleen A. Cashman-Kramer, of San Diego, California, John F. Cashman, of Brockton, and Rear Admiral Edward B. Cashman and his wife Deborah, of Temple Hills, Maryland; she was the grandmother of Sarah E. Cashman of Brockton, Gregory P. Kramer and Daniel D. Kramer of San Diego, California, and Hannah E. Walent of Pembroke. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Sheila J. Cashman and sister of the late Dr. Wayne F. Crossman, of Trumbull, Connecticut. .

Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, on Friday June 3, 2016 from 4-7 pm. A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, June 4, 2016 at St. Ann’s Church, 103 North Main Street, West Bridgewater. Burial will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery.
