Obituary

HAVERHILL: Daniel J. Leahy, 88, died unexpectedly on March 15, 2016 at home. He would have celebrated his 89th birthday on June 3rd.

Born in Haverhill on June 3, 1927 he was the son of the late Daniel J. and Nora (Murphy) Leahy. He was a graduate and Vice President of St. James High School class of 1945. Daniel was a U.S. Armed Forces Veteran and proudly served our country from 1954 until he was honorably discharged in 1956. While enlisted he was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

He worked as an office manager for many years and was the founder of the Leahy School of Irish Step Dancing. Daniel competed in the Irish Step Dancing National Championship and came in second place. He also enjoyed dancing with his godchild, Martine Leahy over the years.

Daniel was a devoted son and enjoyed helping his mother and spending time with her at the family cottage in Salisbury Beach. His family would like to thank Maureen and the staff at Churchill Court where he resided for thirty years for all of their support as well as his family and friends.

He is survived by his godchild, Martine Leahy of Bradford and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service for Daniel will be held on Friday, June 3, 2016 in the St. James Cemetery, Haverhill at 1:30 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
