John T. (“Jack” or “Lefty”) Loftus Jr., 86, of Milton passed on May 24. He was the beloved husband of the late Collette (Ryan) Loftus;devoted father of Diane M. Loftus of Milton, Thomas J. Loftus of Sandown, N.H., John T. Loftus III and his wife Sandra of Stoneham, Elizabeth A. Zachmann and her husband William F. of Duxbury, Nancy J. Celona and her husband, James of Derry, N.H., and Robert F. Loftus and his wife Nancy of Marshfield; caring grandfather of Jason, Daniel, Marc, Christine, Peter, Kellie, Kimberly, and Amie; and great-grandfather of Lucas, Layla, and Jacob. Lefty grew up in Dorchester and went to Boston College High School. He graduated from Boston College (Class of ’51) with a major in chemistry. He was a Korean War veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. He worked as an industrial chemist first in textile manufacturing and later in the formulation of adhesives. He also had a very successful part-time upholstery business and was always at work on various do-it-yourself home improvement projects with Collette. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Agatha Church, Milton, Saturday morning at 10. Visiting hours will be held at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home 326 Granite Ave., Milton, 8:30 to 9:30 am prior to Mass. Interment in Milton Cemetery.
