TAUNTON – Sheryl D. (Petit) Woods, wife of Robert J. Woods, Sr., died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on May 21, 2016. She was 71.
Born in Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late Roland and Erlyn (Sadler) Petit. Educated in New Bedford, she was a member of the New Bedford High School class of 1962. Sheryl attended the New Bedford Institute of Beauty Culture and worked as a hairdresser for several years, but her passion was her career as an aide to special needs patients for Cooperative Productions, Inc. for 30 years, retiring in 2014. She loved gardening, animals, and spending time with her granddaughter Emma and her two dogs, Hannah and Chrissy.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Brian J. Frates of CA; a stepson, Robert J. Woods, Jr. and his wife Joan of N. Dighton; a stepdaughter, Cynthia Souza and her husband Joseph Zinni of Assonet; three grandchildren, Jon Souza, Ashley Woods and Emma Rose Zinni; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Christopher J. Frates and grandmother to the late April Woods.
Her funeral mass with cremains present will be held on Tuesday, May 31st at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew the Apostle Church in Taunton. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
