Obituary

Dorothy Mae (Sherwood) Gavin, of Natick, known to family and friends as Sherry died Sunday May 22,2016 at the Metro West Medical Center in Natick. She was the beloved wife of the late Laurence J Gavin who died July 17 2014, sharing 68 years of marriage.
Daughter of the late Wilbur Seeley Sherwood and May Rose (Prutting) Sherwood, she was born March 7, 1920. She was the sister of the late Marion Sherwood who died in infancy. She was also the sister of the late Lt. Walter Beau Sherwood, USAF who died in WWII.
She spent her early years in Hartford, CT and attended local schools. She sang in Junior and Senior church choirs all her life. She also volunteered as a Nurse's Aide at Hartford Hospital during World War II.
Sherry was a graduate of Lasell Junior College in Auburndale, MA. While at Lasell, she had the privilege of accompanying the Glee Club in their production of "The Pirates of Penzance" under the direction of Paul Burgess. She also sang soprano in the Orpheum Club chorus.
The courses she took at Lasell enabled her to work in both the insurance and brokerage fields. She enjoyed working directly with the New York Stock Exchange and also with local brokers who placed their orders through her location. She also worked at Leonard Morse Hospital in Natick in the X Ray department. Traveling, winter trips to Florida, swimming ,enjoying the sunshine in her backyard, and golfing with her husband Larry in their retirement years brought her much happiness.
She is survived by two daughters, Cheryl G. Araujo of Framingham, MA and Jean S. Theroux of Stratford, CT.
She was also the mother of the late Keith S. Gavin who died in 2002.
In addition, she is survived by six grandchildren: Matthew Gavin, Brett Gavin, Douglas Araujo, Jill Davis and her husband Jeff, Christopher Theroux, Ashley Hui and her husband Thomas; three great-grandchildren: Gabriel Hui, Gavin Davis and Robert Davis; nephews Jim, Bill, Mark and Hugh Gavin.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Friday May 27 at 11:00 A.M. in the John Everett and Sons Funeral home 4 Park Street, at Natick Common.
