Irene (Sousa) Furtado, age 93, of Fall River, passed away on Monday May 23, 2016. She was the wife of John Furtado and daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (Dupont) Sousa. Irene was a button hole operator for Somesta Factory and enjoyed playing bingo, needlework, baking and spending time with her family and friends especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband she is survived by her children Paula Bettencourt (husband Steve), John Furtado Jr. (wife Catherine), grandchildren; Sherry Furtado, Christine Raymond, Richard Furtado, Melanie Macomber, Jaime Miller, and Jonathan Macomber, great-grandchildren; Christopher, Joshua, Jillian, Aiden, Falon, Cayden, and Jacob as well as several nieces and nephews. Irene was also the sister of the late Manuel, Joseph, and Balbina Sousa, Mary Veira, Evelyn Ferreira, Beatrice Medeiros, Louise Aguiar.
Her funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on Friday here at 9 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial St. Mary’s Cathedral at 10 A.M. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours on Thursday from 4-8 P.M.
