Daniel W. Egan, a 40 year resident of Charlestown and formerly of Cambridge, entered into eternal life on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He was 86 years of age.
Daniel was born in Chelsea on January 3, 1930. He was the son of the late Catherine (Beal) Egan and William Egan. He grew up in Cambridge where he was educated in the Cambridge Public School system and graduated from Boston Technical High School. Daniel enlisted in the United States Air Force on April 24, 1951 and served his country with honor and courage during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on January 23, 1955 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his military service, Daniel worked as a Tanner in the Leather Industry for many years until his retirement. Daniel loved traveling, he was an avid Boston sports fan, and he enjoyed going on a long walk every day.
Daniel is the beloved husband of 60 years to Dorothy (O’Donnell) Egan. He is the devoted father of Catherine Sych and her late husband John of Westport, CT., Dorothy Egan and Bernard Farley of Naples, FL., Marian Vance and her husband Harold of Dallas, TX., and Daniel Egan and his wife Mary Ellen of Charlestown. He is the loving Grandpa to Matt and Felicia Sych, Buddy, Tony, Danielle, Dorothy, and John Vance. He is the brother of the late Marion Egan. Daniel is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Daniel's Funeral on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 9 AM from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St., Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 AM. His burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. His Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 from 4 to 8 PM in the funeral home.
