Obituary

CHICOPEE – Donald J. Aubrey, 86, of Chicopee, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 20, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on August 16, 1929, a beloved son of the late Elijah J. and Regina (Fournier) Aubrey. Donald enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country for 20 years in the Korean and Vietnam Wars and attained the rank of Chief Boatswain’s Mate. He served on the USS Yellowstone and received the Occupation Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was last employed as an automobile appraiser for Liberty Mutual in West Springfield. Donald touched many lives and was loved by so many. He traveled the world while in the Navy and enjoyed hunting, fishing, walking in the woods and especially bingo. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his former wife, Alice M. (Jerold) Aubrey; his wife, Elizabeth (Talbot) Carpenter Aubrey; his two sons, Keith and David Aubrey; his brother, George Aubrey; and his four sisters, Lucille LeMay, Jean Roberts, Gertrude Aubrey and Doris Woodall. He leaves his seven loving children, Gertrude DeMars of Lake Helen, FL, Mark Aubrey of Chula, GA, Lynn Goldrick and her husband, Charles, of South Yarmouth, Denise Hennihan of Chicopee, Donald Aubrey of Ludlow, Brian Aubrey and his wife, Barbara, of Charlemont and Todd Aubrey and his wife, Kimberly, of Holyoke; his step-daughter, Kimberly Shakir and her husband, Waleed, of New Jersey; his step-son, Kendall Carpenter and his wife, Alicia, of Connecticut; his 17 grandchildren; his 24 great-grandchildren; his two brothers, Roger Aubrey and his wife, Jeannette, of Lewes, DE and Robert Aubrey of Vero Beach, FL; his sister, Sister Ruth Aubrey of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus of Greensburg, PA; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and extended members of the Aubrey, Jerold and Carpenter families. His funeral will be held on Thursday morning, May 26, 2016 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial with US Navy Military Honors will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
