Lawrence Cavanagh O'Brien of Natick passed away on May 20, 2016. He was the beloved husband of Emily (Olivier) to whom he was married for 62 years.
Larry, as he was known to all, was the son of Paul and Helen O'Brien. He was born in New York, NY. and raised in Sasqua Hills in Norwalk, CT.
Larry attended Fairfield Prep, Fordham University and graduated from Fairfield University. His career took him from Connecticut to Indiana and eventually to establish New England Analytical & Testing Laboratory in Natick, MA. Larry and Emily, as partners, ran the lab for close to 30 years.
Larry was an active member of the KOC, Natick Elks and the St. Linus Church both as a parishioner and golf league member.
In addition to his wife, Emily, Larry leaves his 6 children and 13 grandchildren: Carol and Mark Gunter of Kennebunk, ME (Andrew, Caitlin and Josh, Sara and Tom); Leslie and David Buffo of Westborough, MA (Christina, Matthew); Michael and Karen O'Brien of Holliston, MA (Mannis, Kayla, Liam); Susan and Ron Leger of Sterling, MA (Ryan, Emily); Kelly O'Brien of Sterling, MA and Margery and Todd Reed of Barrington, RI (Camden, Cole, Delaney). He also leaves many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Patricia O'Reilly of Norwalk, CT.
Larry was always willing to lend a hand to family and friends whether it was "packing up the truck" to move someone or caring for a neighbor.
Larry's greatest joy was to be at The Lodge on Crystal Lake in Gray, Maine. surrounded by his family. We will miss him and honor his memory during our "putt putts" around the lake.
Visitation hours are Tuesday, May 24th from 4-7 pm at the John Everett and Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common. A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, May 25th at 11:00 A.M. in St. Linus Church, 119 Hartford Street, Natick. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Larry's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
