Paul P. Williams, age 85, of Brockton, formerly of Plymouth, died Tuesday May 17, 2016 at Heights Crossing. Paul was the husband of the late Louise (Rees) and Patricia (Magill) Williams. Born and raised in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Harry and Gertrude (O’Keefe) Williams. Following graduation, Paul enlisted in the US Army and served in the Army Reserves for several years. Upon his discharge, he became a member of the Pipefitters Local Union 537 and remained a member for over 60 years.
Paul was very proud of his sobriety. He made many friends at the Gavin House in South Boston where he spent a lot of years, first as a resident, then a counselor, then on the Board of Directors, and finally as the director. He was also a longtime volunteer at Jordan Hospital in Plymouth. He loved to read, especially anything to do with history. He enjoyed walking the beaches of York, Maine and Aruba. Paul will be remembered as a very sociable man with a great sense of humor.
Paul was the father of Paul D. Williams of Florida Richard Williams and his wife Barbara of Rockland, Nancy Wayne of Kingston, Gayle Hinckley of Brockton, John Williams and his wife Barbara of Berkley, Lee Robertson and her husband Kenny of Falmouth and the late Jan Williams. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (rte. 123) Brockton, Monday 5-8pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home Tuesday at 10, followed by burial in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul’s name may be made to the Gavin House, 675 E 4th St, South Boston, MA 02127.
