New Bedford – Mary (Souza) Bettencourt, 100, of New Bedford, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Sacred Heart Home after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Frank Bettencourt and the late John J. Soares.
Born in Raynham, she was a lifelong resident of New Bedford . Mary was the daughter of the late Julio and Mary (Souza) Souza.
A communicant of St. James Church, Mary was a Stitcher in various textile factories in New Bedford before she retired. She was a kind, loving and outgoing woman who will be missed dearly, especially by nieces and nephew Gwen, Ian, Monica, Ava and Lula.
She is survived by a sister Rita Gallego and also by several nieces and nephews and was the sister of the late John Souza, Antone Souza, and Joseph Dias.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Sacred Heart for their kind and loving care.
Visitation will be at the WILSON CHAPEL 479 County St. New Bedford on Tuesday, May 24th, from 8:30 am to 9:30 am with a Mass at 10 am at Our Lady of Gaudalupe at St. James Church. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
