Obituary

Jacob Thomas Georgon, Machinist

Jacob T. Georgon, 94, of Worcester passed away on May 6 after a short illness. He was born to Thomas and Philomena Georgon in the city of Struga, in what was then Yugoslavia.

In 1937 Mr. Georgon immigrated to Southbridge, MA to help his father, who was working to save money to send back home. He attended school in Southbridge, but began working full time at American Optical following the sudden death of his father. He later moved to Worcester and worked at the Table Talk Bakery; then for more than thirty years he was a machinist at Heald Machine Company and at Cincinnati Milacron, which acquired Heald. He married Mary Louise Jbara in 1947.

Their dream was to build their own home, but money was tight in the late 1950s and they lacked credit to borrow enough to complete the structure. Instead, they used the loan to buy land and build a foundation furnished with utilities. They covered this foundation with a tarred roof and lived there until they earned enough to finish off the building in 1963. Mr. Georgon did much of the construction work himself with the help of professionals. Mary Georgon passed away in 2015.

Jacob is survived by his son Thomas, of Worcester; his son Steven, daughter-in-law Anita and grandson Joseph, all of East Douglas; his sister-in-law Elizabeth and brother-in-law Edward Fegreus, of North Brookfield; his niece Mary Elizabeth Reynolds, of Paxton; and his nephew Edward Fegreus, of Cohasset; as well as several next-generation nieces and nephews.

His funeral services will take place on Saturday May 21 at FAZIO FUNERAL HOME, 9 Branch St. Worcester. Calling hours will be from 11:30am to 1:00 pm. A prayer service will begin at 1:00pm in the Funeral Home. Burial will private. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Louis M. Fazio Jr. and Louis M. Fazio III.
