WORCESTER-Margaret R. “Peggy” (Robinson) McManus, 66, of 10 Hemlock Street, formerly of 388 June Street, died Sunday May 19th in the Coes Pond Hospice Residence, after a brief illness. She leaves her husband of 45 years Bernard J. “Jim” McManus, 2 daughters Peggy Bolte of Sunderland and Katherine Oftring of Worcester, 2 brothers Paul Robinson of Southport, NC and Jim Robinson of Charlton, 6 grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
She was born in Worcester the daughter of Ernest J. and Margaret R. (Daley) Robinson. She was a graduate of South High School. Mrs. McManus had worked as a secretary for the Worcester Public Schools, working the last 15 years at Sullivan Middle School, she retired in 1996. She had been the recipient of 2 Keys to the City presented to her by former mayor Thomas J. Early for her community service to the Worcester Public Schools. She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish, the League of St. Jude and the Massachusetts Retired, State, County and Municipal Employees Association, Inc. Mrs. McManus had been a life member of Worcester Emblem Club #51 for 35 years. She served as it’s president in 1976, District Deputy in 1979-1980 for the Supreme Emblem Club of the United States, and also served as corresponding secretary for the Massachusetts State Association of Emblem Clubs for 1988 to 1989.
The funeral will be Wednesday, May 22nd from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, with a Mass at 11:00 Am in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 341 June Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday, May 21st from 4:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. Members of the Emblem Club will conduct a ritual Tuesday, May 21st at 7:15 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905 or Coes Pond Hospice Residence, 10 Judith Road, Worcester, MA 01602.
