Bernice V. Surtel, 90, of Binghampton Avenue, Johnston, died Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at the Hope Hospice and Pallative Care Inpatient Center in Providence. She was the wife of the late Stanley T. Surtel, Sr.
Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Delia (Bouchard) Barlow. She had lived most her life in Johnston. She had been a member of the American Postal Workers Union, Achievers, St. Thomas Parish and St. Thomas Women’s club.
Bernice retired from the US Postal Service in 1986 after 25 years.
She is survived by her children: Stanley t. Surtel, Jr and his wife, Mary of Smithfield, William A. Surtel and his wife, Dorothy of Cranston, Mark B. Surtel and his wife, Kathy of Johnston, Janice Pagliaro of Johnston, eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a sister, Winifred McDuff of Kansas City, MO. She was the sister of the late Edna Love and Ralph Barlow.
Her funeral will be held Monday at 9:30am from the Anderson-Winfield Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Thomas Church, 65 Fruit Hill Ave., Providence. Burial will follow in RI Veteran’s Cemetery, Exeter. Visitation 8:30-9:30am.
