BOXFORD: Martha A. “Marcy” (Scheer) Thompson, 77, died Tuesday, May 10, 2016 in the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, Boston following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of Robert J. Thompson.
Born in Detroit, Michigan on February 11, 1939, Martha was the daughter of the late Michael and Beverly (Hawks) Scheer. She was raised in Dearborn MI, later residing in Iowa and Virginia, then moving to Lynnfield in 1972 and finally to Boxford in 1998. Martha was a graduate of Detroit Lutheran High School and received her BA in Education from Concordia Teachers College.
"Marcy" taught elementary school for nearly 50 years. The schools she taught in after moving to Massachusetts include, Center Congregational Pre-school, Lynnfield Middle School, Messiah Lutheran Day school and Boxford Academy, where she also served as headmaster. She retired in 2009. She welcomed 19 foster children into her Lynnfield home. She has been a 4-H leader and Topsfield Fair volunteer for 30 years. Over the years she taught Sunday school, tutored and taught piano. Marcy greatly loved her family, her church family, her farm animals and house pets as well as her organic vegetable garden and numerous flower beds. Antiques were a favorite hobby too.
Marcy is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert “Bob” Thompson; her son, Steven Thompson and his wife, Sheila; her daughter, Jennifer (Thompson) Miles and her husband, David; her 7 beloved grand children: Christian, Rachel, and Hannah Miles, Deven, Daniela, Xin Long (predeceased), Destiny and Dietrich Thompson. Her sister, Mary Brown and brother, Mark Scheer, her 3 brothers-in-law, Gordon, Bill and Jack and 10 nephews and nieces.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, July 1st in the Middleton Congregational Church, 66 Maple St. (Rt.62) Middleton at 10:30 a.m. followed by a reception. Relatives, friends and her precious students are cordially invited to attend. Internment was privately held in the Village Cemetery, Boxford attended by her immediate family and church pastors. Expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Partners in Development, or Middleton Congregational Church (Children’s Ministry).
