Obituary

PAXTON-Elizabeth B. “Betty” (Boyd) Sheldon, 95, of Paxton died Saturday, May 14, 2016 at home. Her husband of 63 years, Nathan F. Sheldon predeceased her in 2004. She is survived by a son Orville G. Sheldon and his wife Carolyn of Paxton; a daughter Judy B. "Samm" Russell and her husband Dave of Keene, NH; four grandsons, Keith and Kyle Sheldon and Jerid and Ethan Krulish; seven great grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. Betty was predeceased by her daughter,Jean B. Norris of Dunedoo, NSW Australia; her great granddaughter Zoe Krulish, a brother, Gardner Boyd and a sister, Grace Ameden.

She was born in Barre, MA, daughter of Gardner and Lucille (Blanchard) Boyd and graduated from Barre High School and Mary Brooks School in Boston. Betty moved to New York City shortly after graduating from college and she worked at the World’s Fair in 1939 and then at Macy’s before returning to the Worcester area, where she began working at Filene’s. She married her husband Nathan in 1941 and they began their family. Betty was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for several years, and was active in the Paxton Recreation Committee, Paxton Women’s Club and PTA. She was a long time and active member of the Paxton First Congregational Church. She also worked with her husband at the family business, Sheldon’s Harley Davidson.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, May 26 at the First Congregational Church of Paxton, 1 Church Street, Paxton, MA 01612. Burial in Mooreland Cemetery will be private. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty’s memory may be made to the First Congregational Church.
