Ruth L. Lucia, a longtime Woburn resident passed away peacefully, May 17, 2016, at the Life Care Center in Billerica following a period of failing health. She was 85 years of age. She was the beloved wife of the late Guy J. Lucia. Born in Woburn, Ruth was one of eight children of the late Fernando and Beatrice (Kennedy) Wood.
Ruth was raised and educated in Burlington and was a graduate of Burlington High School. Shortly following her marriage to her beloved Guy in 1954 they settled in Woburn where together they started their family and brought three beautiful daughters into the world. Mostly devoted to her children and family Ruth did work many jobs throughout her life. She worked for a period at the Woolworth five & dime store in Woburn and also worked for several years as the director of housekeeping at the Ramada Inn. She volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader and because of her love for children she ran a daycare for children of her family and friends and was a beloved nanny to all of the children she cared for. In her leisure time she enjoyed bowling at the Towanda Club and golfing with her lady friends. She was very talented and creative and enjoyed sewing and working on different arts a crafts. Ruth was a special lady and will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
Ruth is lovingly survived by her daughters; Rose Marie Farrow and her husband Steven of Osterville, Carol Ann Fucarile and her husband David of Ashland, NH, Gay Jean Lonergan and her husband Kevin of Woburn. She was the loving grandmother of Jason, Erin, Katie, Colleen, Cody, Christopher, Tyler, Evan and Brooke. Loving great grandmother of Riley, Avery, Logan, Sienna, Mia and Shealey. Ruth is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her late husband and parents, she is sadly predeceased by her siblings; William Kennedy, Barbara Tropea, Ora Orcult, Bea Wood, Edith Wood, John Wood and James Woods.
Funeral services will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., Woburn, Friday, May 20th, at 9 a.m. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 280 Main St., WOBURN, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home will be held on Thursday from 4 thru 8 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Ruth's memory to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
