Martinez, GA – Walter Eugene “Gene” Ivey, Sr., 77, loving husband of 57 years to Elsie Ivey, entered into rest on Sunday, May 15, 2016.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Platt’s Funeral Home Belair Rd. Chapel with Chaplain Wayne Bruner officiating. Burial will follow at West View Cemetery.
Gene was the former owner and operator of A+ Transmission before his son took over the family business. He loved people and treated all of his employees like they were part of his family. Gene served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of New Heights Community Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and spending time on his houseboat.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his son; Walter E. “Gene” Ivey, Jr. (Laura Flynn-Ivey) of Martinez, GA, daughter; Lynn Golden (Don) of Evans, GA, four grandchildren; Davis Ivey, Jeneva Golden, Michael Chalker, Sarah Golden, three great grandchildren; Brenton Morrow, MJ Chalker, Elsie Chalker, and special friend; Doyle Chavous.
Pallbearers will be Carl Edenfield, Michael Edenfield, Doyle Chavous, Phillip Hatcher, Lee Stephens, Gary Combs, Sonny Scott, and Adam Witherington. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald Golden and Larry Golden.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
