Paul Vital, age 71, of Norton passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at home. He was the beloved husband of the late Joan V. (Camara) Vital who died on July 27, 2002.
Born in Westport, MA on December 29, 1944, he was a loving son of the late Manuel and Altina (Guimaraes) Vital.
Paul grew up in Westport and was a graduate of Westport High School. He furthered his studies, receiving a bachelor’s degree in education at Bridgewater State College, his master’s degree in education from Northeastern University, and also did his PhD work at LSU.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Vital was a Computer Science Teacher, a career, which spanned 28 years at Westborough High School. He retired with the position of Department Chair of the Computer Science and Business Department.
Paul was a resident of Norton for the past 43 years and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton. He loved spending time with his adoring family, especially the grandchildren.
Paul enjoyed traveling, some of which his points of destination included Africa where he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and to Portugal to participate in an Archeological dig. He also loved the great outdoors whether it be golfing, camping, fishing or kayaking.
He is survived by his devoted and loving daughters Lisa M. Bertuola and her husband Lawrence of PA and Jennifer C. Green and her husband John of Clinton, MA. He was the dear brother of Ronald Vital of Dartmouth, MA, the cherished grandfather of Gabrielle and Sofia Bertuola and Christian and Aiden Green. He is also survived by 2 nephews.
His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 17th at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power St, Norton. Burial will follow at the Timothy Plain Cemetery in Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, May 16th from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
