New Bedford – Charles Arruda, age 87, passed away surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday May 12, 2016. He was the husband of the late Alice (Rego) Arruda and the son of the late Mary (Arruda) and Charles Arruda.
Charles was a lifetime resident of this area and was a foreman at Norlantic Diesel Boatyard in Fairhaven for many years until his retirement .
He is survived by his 6 children: Charles Arruda of New Bedford, Rosemary Arruda, Marianne Arruda, Charlotte Leonard all of Somerset, William Arruda of Worcester and Michael Arruda of East Freetown; 1 sister: Shirley Ponsart of Fairhaven; Charles was also survived by7 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be Tuesday beginning in the funeral home at 11:00 A.M. with a service in the funeral home at 12:15 P.M. Calling hours will be Monday from 5- 7 P.M. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
