Bertha Adeline (Pell) Jones was 94 years old at the time of her passing on Thursday May 5, 2016 from complications of a stroke she had on January 7, 2016. A lifelong resident of New Bedford, MA, she was married to Retired Police Officer Walter S. Jones, Sr. for 69 years.
She was the daughter of the late Walter and Kate (Gray) Pell and last survivor of their 11 children.
Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband, her daughter Baunie (Jones) McConnell and husband Thomas of Coral Springs, FL, her grandson Peter McConnell and his wife Jacqueline Silva-McConnell, her granddaughter Kate McConnell and her boyfriend Jimmy Alexander, her great-grandson Mason McConnell and her step-son Walter Jones, Jr and his family along with nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was a member of the Goodyear Seniors having worked at the New Bedford Plant for over 42 years. She was very involved with her grandchildren during their youth, attending their sporting activities, volunteering for their after school programs just as she did with her daughter. She was very special to so many in the West End Community.
A graveside service for Mrs. Jones will be held privately at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours are omitted. Arrangements are by the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
