Obituary

Alfred L. “Al” Handy, Sr. age 69 of Brockton, died Thursday May 5, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center. He was the loving husband of Luella (Folder) Handy for 47 years. Al was born in Melrose and raised in Malden, a son of the late Alfred B. and Virginia V. (Jackson) Handy and had lived in Brockton since 1978.

Al was a 1965 graduate of Malden High School and received his bachelor and master’s degrees from Cambridge College.  During the Vietnam War he served in the US Air Force. Al retired in 2000 as the Chief of the Green Line for the MBTA after many years of service.

Al was a member of the Carmen’s Union Local 589 and the ARRL (American Radio Relay League) using the handle “N1AAU” He loved woodworking and was a computer buff from its infancy.  Al will be remembered as a very direct man who was also loving, honest and kind. He did not shy away from hard work.

Al was the father of the late Alfred L. Handy, Jr. and brother of Janel  Lucas of Milton, Leona Flint of Everett, Robert  Handy of Santa Cruz, CA; Claudia Gabriel of Malden, Naomi Turner of Everett and the late James Handy. He was the brother in law of Janie Sanders of Jessup, MD; Jean and Ken Jackson of Syracuse, NY; Adam Folder of Baltimore, MD; Jeanette Folder of Laurel, MD and Maple Folder of Baltimore, MD. He also leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte. 123) Brockton on Thursday 4-7pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday at 10:30am with visitation 10-10:30am. Burial in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton.
