Obituary

Augusta, GA---Nicholas Claire Dickinson went to his eternal home on Saturday, May 7, 2016.

Family members include his beloved wife of 48 years, Rox Ann Tanner Dickinson; his daughter, Kate Dickinson El Hamamhy, and her husband, Sonny; his son, Nicholas C. Dickinson, Jr., and his wife, Anna; and his grandchildren, Alexander Nicholas El Hamamhy, Sarah Kate El Hamamhy, Abby Claire El Hamamhy, Nicholas Carson Dickinson, and Brooks Clark Dickinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil C. Dickinson and Joan Dickinson Goodin, and his brother, Wayne Allen Dickinson.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church of Augusta, Georgia, with the Reverend Dr. George Robertson officiating. Interment will be private.

The family will greet friends and share memories in the Platt’s Funeral Home at 721 Crawford Avenue in Augusta, Georgia, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 9, 2016.

Nick Dickinson was born on May 8, 1945, and lived his childhood years in Waterloo, Iowa, where he learned the value of hard work and honest wages. He married his childhood sweetheart, Rox Ann Tanner, on April 6, 1968. He served in the United States Army Reserve Infantry from 1967 through 1973. He graduated from Iowa State University with a BA degree in Architecture in 1971 and later with a Masters of Architecture degree in 1974. He moved his wife and two children to Augusta, Georgia, in 1976, and started Nicholas Dickinson & Associates, P.C., Architects – Interiors – Planners, in 1980 in the offices of the Old Union Savings Bank Building at the corner of 8th and Broad Streets in Augusta.

Mr. Dickinson was a Registered Architect in Georgia and South Carolina, and he served as President of the Augusta Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. He was a Board Member of the Richmond County Building Inspection Department, a Member of

the Augusta Richmond County Planning & Zoning Board from 2002 through 2006, and a Member of the Augusta Richmond County Board of Zoning Appeals from 2006 through 2013. He also served on the Board of the Augusta Downtown Alliance and the Augusta Riverfront Review Board. Through his many years of architectural work and professional service, Mr. Dickinson greatly influenced the structural landscape of the Augusta community.

Mr. Dickinson was a civic leader. He graduated from the Leadership Augusta organization in 1988, and was a member of the Metro Augusta Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis Club. He served as President of the Augusta Lions Club. He believed in community service and worked tirelessly at the Heritage Academy and Christ Community Health Center. He was a Founding Board Member of the Ronald McDonald House for two terms and a Founding Board Member of the CSRA Family & Counseling Services. He was also a member of the Greater Augusta Arts Council. He was active in the First Presbyterian Church.

Nick enjoyed playing golf as a member of the Augusta Country Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was happiest, though, when he was with his grandchildren.

Nick Dickinson has enhanced the lives of family, friends, clients, colleagues and fellow citizens for almost seventy-one years. His memory will be cherished.
