Obituary

CHICOPEE – Pauline B. (Bouchard) Gorman, 90, a longtime resident of Emmet Street in the Chicopee Falls section of Chicopee and later of Monastery Heights in West Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Wingate at West Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on May 8, 1925, a daughter of the late Romeo and Alice (Lavoie) Bouchard. At a young age, she was taken to Saint Jean, Province of Quebec, Canada where she lived until returning to West Springfield. Pauline and her husband, Bill, bought their first variety store on Plainfield Street in Springfield in 1962 and sold it in 1965 to relocate to Chicopee. Pauline and Bill were the former owners of Pauline’s Variety Store at the intersection of Montgomery Street and Memorial Drive in Chicopee Falls. After they sold the store, Pauline and Bill loved to travel. Every year they drove across the country to visit with their many friends and relatives. During her leisure time, Pauline enjoyed playing cards and knitting. Her many family members and friends still enjoy wearing her knitted slippers and snuggling with an afghan that she made. Most of all, she was a wonderful homemaker to her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, William F. “Bill” Gorman who was Called Home on November 21, 2009. They were married on August 27, 1949 at the former Saint Joseph Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 60 years of happiness together. She leaves her two loving children, Nadine M. Schultz and her husband, Peter, of Pfafftown, NC and Brian T. Gorman and his wife, Sue, of West Springfield; her four cherished grandchildren, Stacey Schrader and her husband, Arnold, of Los Angeles, CA and Megan, Jared and Katelyn Gorman, all of West Springfield; her dear brother, Ronald Bouchard and his wife, Marcia, of Lady Lake, FL; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Gorman and Bouchard families. In August, Pauline and Bill will be watching from the Eternal City of Heaven the birth of their great-granddaughter, Stella Schrader. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her two dear brothers, Roger Bouchard and Oscar Bouchard. Her family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, May 20, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service to be held at 5:30 p.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
