Obituary

Edgar H. “Brother” Pelissier, 81, formerly of Jillson Ave. died peacefully Tuesday evening at Trinity Health and Rehab Center. He was the loving husband of the late Theresa (Masse) Pelissier who passed away in 1992.

Born in Woonsocket he was a son of the late Joseph and Alice (Giguere) Pelissier. Edgar was a proud lifelong resident of Woonsocket and attended Le Petit College on Hamlet Ave.

Mr. Pelissier was employed by the City of Woonsocket Department of Public Works for over 25 years before retiring in 1992. No job was too big or too small; Brother was a city worker par excellence.

For many years Brother served a funeral assistant at the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home greeting mourners and guests alike with his warm, welcoming and compassionate manner.

A longtime member and supporter of numerous civic organizations Brother was the President of Cercle Laurier in 1963. A Pelissier family member has been a member of the Cercle since the founding of the club. He would also continue to serve the Cercle as club chaplain and longtime active member. Brother was also a member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge 850, the Club Lafayette and the Woonsocket Council 113 Knights of Columbus. Edgar was a presence at many social functions in the city; be it a fundraiser breakfast, charity dinner or a gathering of friends for a worthy cause if it was happening in Woonsocket you were likely to run into Brother. He was also known as the “Candy Man or the Popcorn Man”. If Brother liked you he gave you a Butterscotch candy.

Brother will be remembered for his friendly and gregarious personality, positive outlook and joie de vivre. A true old time Woonsocketer he would often express himself with colloquial statements that ran the length and breadth of the French-Canadian lexicon.

He is survived by a brother Roland H. Pelissier and his wife, Muriel, and a sister Lucille Hebert all of Woonsocket. He was the brother-in-law of the late Joseph G. Hebert. He is also survived by his extended family of several nieces, nephews and cousins and their families and his circle of friends.
