Rita I. (Sawyer) Schemm, 91, of New Bedford died Thursday May 5, 2016 at the Oaks Nursing Home after a brief illness.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Albert H. Sawyer, Jr. and Leah (Adams) Sawyer, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.
Mrs. Schemm was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.
She is survived by her sons, George E. Schemm and Thomas H. Schemm, both of New Bedford.
She was the sister of the late Everett Sawyer.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday May 7, 2016 at 10 AM at St. Lawrence Church. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday morning from 8:30-9:30 AM prior to the Mass.
